The General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy of Lithuania is the state military higher education institution responsible for training professional officers for the Lithuanian Armed Forces. It is located in Vilnius, Lithuania and overseen by the Ministry of National Defence.
Founded in 1994 (continuing traditions from earlier officer schools in Lithuanian history), the academy is named after General Jonas Žemaitis, a national hero and leader of the resistance against Soviet occupation.
LKA’s mission is to educate and develop military leaders who are prepared to lead units and staff in both peacetime and wartime. It combines academic university education with military training and leadership development. Graduates earn a bachelor’s degree and a first officer rank (lieutenant) upon completion.
The academy offers internationally recognized programs in areas such as defense studies, military leadership, security and national defence, and participates in international exchanges with military institutions across Europe.
LKA also provides a range of professional military courses, language training, and national security education for service members and partners.
